@@Prime1765 I think this is an excellent point that should always be brought up in our school system when discussing pioneers and how places were built up I totally agree. however I don’t know that negates the fact of not using the term Pioneer as there were many black pioneers also in Florida that owned slaves so I think it’s important to have that conversation when we’re teaching our younger generations so they have a full understanding. Thank you for your comment.

With that being said, I understand your point and if I ever go to use the phrase, they built this city. I will reconsider my words and phrase it differently.

@@NixPix Thank You for your reply. I feel as if the ownership of slaves in Florida was completely different. For instance the slave owner of the Kingsley plantation was one of the former slaves and she and the other slaves were buying their family members and called them slaves for tax purposes. The so called slaves in Florida had their own horses, guns, grew their own food and built their own houses along with “master’s house”. If this perspective could be more thoroughly explained & explored I feel like the way that we look at Slavery in Florida would change drastically. 💚🌞❤️
